Australia Beat India by 9 wickets in Super 8 Match


Colombo: It was cake walk for Australia to defeat the Indian team who sweated to make a score of just 140 runs in 20 overs.  Australia reached the target losing only a single wicket and the balls remained was 30.  Shane Watson who scored 72 runs was given the man of the match award.  Australia won the match by 9 wickets. David Warner remained not out on 63 at the end of the match.  He scored 63 runs facing 41 balls.  He hit seven fours and three sixes.
India won the toss and elected to bat first.  Gautam Gambhir and Irfan Pathan opened the innings for India.  Gautam Gambhir hit a four in the first over.  The first damage for India was in the form of Gautam Gambhir’s wicket.  He was run out when India was 21.  He scored 17 facing 12 balls and hit 3 fours.  Virat Kohli managed to move the score board and at the end of seventh over India was 56/1.  Kohli was caught by Dan Christian in the eighth over when the score was 80.  He scored 15 runs.  Eleventh over was not good for India as it has lost the wicket of Irfan Pathan (31 runs in 30 balls with two fours and one six) and Yuvraj Singh.  In the consecutive over Rohit Sharma was out after scoring only one run.  Indian skipper also could not make much runs and lost his wicket for 15 runs.  He faced 21 balls.  In the 20th over Suresh Rain was out at an individual score of 26 runs.  India could only make 140 runs by losing 7 wickets.  Not a very challenging target for a team as strong as Australia.
Australia’s inning started off with the openers scoring nine runs in the first over.  Australian bats men played well and the sore of their team touched 100 in the tenth over and they have not any wicket till then.  The wicket of Australia fell in the 14th over when the score on the board was 138.  Shane Watson was out in the bowling of Yuvraj Singh at an individual score of 72 runs.  Australia only needed three runs at that time.  The next batsman who came was Glen Maxwell and hit the run needed for the win.
